What is busway?

I. Busway

1. Definition: Busway is a new type of conductor formed by using copper or aluminum as conductor, supported by non-olefinic insulation, and then installed in a metal trough

2. Relative cable performance: large current capacity, small voltage drop, high safety factor, low construction and operation cost, free addition or change of equipment in the distribution system, simple construction and inspection and maintenance, modern appearance, etc. Based on the above advantages, busduct replacing cable has gradually become a trend in many industries.

3. Application: Mainly used in power supply and distribution places such as high-rise buildings, factories, commercial centers, generator rooms, data centers, and lighting systems.

II. Busway types

1. Air insulation busduct: The busbar is supported in the shell with an insulating pad and insulated by air medium.

2. Dense busduct(Also known as Sandwich Busway): After the bare busbar is covered with insulating material, it is placed close to the channel shell. It has the advantages of fast heat dissipation, low temperature rise, and compact structure. It is suitable for most places such as high-rise buildings, factories, and data centers. It is the mainstream busbar type in the industry.

3. Resin cast busbar: It is cast with high-performance insulating resin and a variety of inorganic minerals. The busbar is directly cast and sealed, and the protection level reaches IP68. It is a new type of metal-free busway with four protection functions such as waterproof, fireproof, anti-corrosion, and explosion-proof.

4. Fire resistant busway: It is suitable for three-phase four-wire and three-phase five-wire power supply and distribution systems with AC 50~60Hz, rated voltage 660V and below, and rated current 250~3150A with high dry fire protection requirements.

5. Common box Enclosed Busbar: The conductor of the common box enclosed busbar adopts copper-aluminum busbar or trough aluminum trough copper, with compact structure, convenient installation, small operation and maintenance workload, and protection level of IP54. It can basically eliminate grounding faults caused by external moisture, dust, and foreign objects.

Trunk unit
The trunk unit includes a trunk unit without a tapping device and a trunk unit with a tapping device. The two types have the same basic size and structural shape, and can be easily connected to each other.

Incoming unit
The incoming unit and the incoming box form a connecting part between the busway and the cable. The incoming unit can be directly connected to the distribution cabinet or transformer as the power input or output end of the busway.

Starting box
The incoming box and the incoming unit form a power input device, which is divided into two forms: with switch and without switch.

Branch unit (plug-in box)
The busway plug-in box is a main bus duct accessory, which is mainly used to extend the busway branch line. The plug-in box is generally equipped with a molded case circuit breaker connected to the busway through a pin. The pin is connected to the incoming end of the circuit breaker, and the electrical equipment is connected to the outgoing end of the circuit breaker. The circuit is disconnected and protected by the circuit breaker. In this way, the current of the busway main line is diverted to the electrical equipment, which is very convenient to use and maintain.

Terminal seal
The terminal is sealed at the terminal of the busway to prevent the exposed end of the Busbar System from being corroded by dust, rain, etc., and to ensure electrical safety. Busways of various specifications are equipped with terminal seals.
