Common Causes of Busbar Short Circuit Failures and Repair Methods

The main common causes of short circuit in dense Bus Duct:

Insulation material quality problems: If the dense bus duct uses cheap and poor quality insulation materials, and the cut insulation materials have pinholes or uneven thickness, this may cause the bus duct to fail during use.

Copper Busbar quality problems: If the copper busbar of the dense bus duct contains impurities, or has convex marks, burrs, welding defects and other problems, it may cause the burrs to penetrate the insulation layer after being put into use, thereby causing a short circuit.

Insufficient water spray prevention function: The fire-resistant bus duct should have a water spray prevention function. If the fire-resistant bus duct does not have this function, the bus duct may short-circuit when encountering fire sprinklers or other water sources.

Installation environment problems: When installing the bus duct, if garbage or moisture enters the casing, it may cause a short circuit.

Short circuit caused by load: During the operation of the bus duct, most short circuit problems are equipment failures caused by load, especially motor short circuit. Although the motor is usually equipped with a protector, when a motor short circuit occurs, the motor protector will cut off the motor power supply, resulting in the bus duct being impacted by the short circuit before the motor protector is cut off. The greater the motor power, the greater the impact on the bus duct when a short circuit occurs.

Methods for handling bus duct faults:

Handling of double bus faults: If a bus connected to a double bus fails, attention should be paid to the operation mode of the bus protection when handling the fault. If necessary, the bus protection can be stopped for a short time.

Handling after power failure: After the bus voltage disappears, the dispatcher should immediately open the possible incoming switches (including the bus tie switch) and notify the operation team to conduct an external inspection of the bus.

Detailed inspection after the fault: When the bus duct voltage disappears due to a fault and obvious short circuit signs (such as fire, smoke, etc.) appear, the operation team shall not resume operation on their own, and the bus equipment shall be inspected in detail.

Component failure handling: If a component connected to the bus fails or the shunt switch refuses to operate, and the bus loses pressure due to overstepping, a detailed inspection should be carried out and the faulty component should be isolated or both sides of the faulty shunt switch should be disconnected to ensure rapid restoration of power supply. If necessary, other branches should be dispatched for access to ensure normal bus operations.
